Founded in 1990 by former Altoona, Pennsylvania Police Officer Rocco Scalzi with the support of Vietnam War hero Bob Wieland, and Vietnam War hero and four-time Super Bowl champion Rocky Bleier, the Beating the Odds Foundation is an inspirational charity that works to help the young people of our nation make positive and healthy choices during their critical years of development. Our mission is to help children reach their full potential in life.

To kick off this inspirational charity, 15,000 students attended an event at Three Rivers Stadium, then-home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since that time nearly 20 years ago, students across the country have been encouraged by the stories of the Quarterbacks of Life. These individuals overcame insurmountable obstacles to reach their goals. Students continue to gain inspiration and learn what it takes to help them face the challenges of life through the Beating the Odds Foundation’s Three-Step Model.

Now, thanks to sports attorney Leigh Steinberg, the real-life inspiration for Jerry Maguire, a one million dollar endowment was pledged to help support the mentoring of students through the Leigh Steinberg Beating the Odds Quarterback Club. High school students and teachers across America are being invited to join the Quarterbacks of Life Mentoring Program to serve as mentors to elementary students.

This program aims to:

   * connect students with mentors and role models
    * teach students skills they need to tackle the challenges of life
    * help shape the development of America's youth and the leaders of tomorrow

Joining Leigh in his efforts are Rocky Bleier, former Pittsburgh Steeler great and Co-Chairman of Beating the Odds Foundation; Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers; Steve Young, legendary quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers and a 2005 NFL Hall of Famer; Warren Moon, NFL standout with 9 Pro Bowl appearances, a 2006 NFL Hall of Famer, and current sports broadcaster; Randall Cunningham, former NFL quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles; and other national figures. The 2007 Leigh Steinberg Beating the Odds Quarterbacks of Life award recipients have also joined the movement.
